Common questions

Do any translations need setting up?
No. Most translations in The Pillar are public-domain or openly licensed and work immediately. The copyrighted ones we licence — the New King James Version, NASB, New Living Translation and The Message — need no setup from you either; they are shown live and need a connection.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us, so they're managed in your Apple account: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before a renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Refund requests also go through Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I subscribed but the app still shows the paywall.
Tap Restore at the top of that screen — it re-checks your Apple account for an active subscription. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with. If it still doesn't unlock, email us.
Are my notes and highlights backed up?
They're stored on your device, and if you have iCloud enabled they sync privately through your own iCloud account to your other devices. We have no access to them. You can export all your notes as Markdown at any time from Settings → Notes → Export Notes as Markdown.
Can I use The Pillar offline?
In large part. The King James text, Strong's, the lexicons, the five Bible dictionaries and the topical index are bundled in the app and never need a connection. Commentaries are fetched a chapter at a time and do need one. Chapters you read are cached automatically, and you can download whole translations for offline reading. The New King James Version, NASB, New Living Translation and The Message are never stored offline, as their licences don't permit it.
How do I stop a reading plan?
Open the plan and tap Leave plan, or press and hold the plan's card on the Today tab and choose Leave plan. It stops appearing on Today and turns off its daily reminder. The plan stays in the library, and reading any day starts it again.
I found a bug, or a passage looks wrong.
Please tell us — email help@thepillarapp.com with the book, chapter, and translation, and a screenshot if you have one. Scripture text comes from third-party providers, so we can also report errors upstream.
